Baskent University Ankara Hospital which started operating in 1985 with 60 bed capacity, is being expanded continuously by addition of new fully equipped blocks and buildings. It is called "Baskent University Bahcelievler Campus" now.
The Ankara Hospital has well-equipped laboratories that provide clinicians with accurate and rapid diagnostic assistance. All the laboratories serve research activities as well. Electrophoresis, nephelometry, and ELISA systems are available for specific tests. Immunofluoroassay, radioimmunoassay, and automatic absorpsiometry techniques are also used routinely.
All hematological and microbiological tests are performed with accuracy, and laboratory standards are maintained with regular quality control testing. Tissue typing is part of the laboratory routine as well, since the transplantation unit is very active, performing living-related and cadaveric kidney, liver, and cornea transplantations.
The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique is an invaluable tool for diagnosing certain diseases, in addition to tissue typing.
Teams at our hospital carry out a wide variety of surgeries, from open heart operations through to cancer surgeries and various types of transplantations. To adequately support these procedures, a capacious and reliable blood bank must be on hand, with the capacity to provide all types of blood products, from whole blood to various blood products. In our blood bank, all products are carefully prepared and microbiologically tested by means of the ELISA method.
The dental outpatient clinics serve all patients, including hospitalized patientss, and also treat students at the university. The dental practice covers endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, and orofascial and mandibular surgery.
