The experimental research activities of Baskent University are carried out at the Baskent University Medical and Surgical Research Center, with the invaluable support of the Baskent University Laboratory Animal Breeding Center.

The function of the Baskent University Laboratory Animal Breeding Center is to breed laboratory animals for clinical and surgical experimental studies that are conducted by Baskent University researchers. In addition, it provides informative and material support for investigators and research centers from outside the university.
Laboratory animals with specific genetic make-up are raised and studied for investigative studies. Various breeds of rats, mice, hamsters, rabbits, and guinea pigs are available. Certain breeds of hamsters and guinea pigs native to Turkey continue to be tamed and adopted for experimental work.

All center activities adhere to the "Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals," published by the Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources, and the Commission on Life Sciences, part of the National Research Council, U.S.A. There are two operating rooms (one each for small and large animals), a pre-operative room observation room, two post-operative recovery rooms (one each for small and large animals), a laboratory for basic testing, and meeting and resting rooms. All the latest surgical equipment, including microsurgical instruments are available to researchers from outside the university.

In all techniques of animal anesthesia, pre- and postoperative care, and euthanasia, individuals are required to strictly maintain the adopted principles of the Office of Animal Use and Care.
